New Haven Debtor Rights Attorney Explains the Police Being Notified of a Repossession

The other day, as a New Haven Debtor Rights Attorney I was asked if the police are notified before an automobile repossession is done. The repossession company must notify the police department ahead of time that they are repossessing your car.  Also, as a New Haven Debtor Rights Lawyer I advised clients that during the repossession process, if there is a breach of the peace or damage to your property, that is also grounds for bringing action against the repossession company, and possibly the original creditor for damages and losses.

If your car is repossessed in Connecticut, it is crucial to know that there are certain laws that a repossession company must adhere to in order for the repossession to be valid and lawful.  Contact our experienced New Haven Debtor Rights Attorney if you need help.
